Welcome to Associatedflavors.com. My name is Daniel Strabley, I am a 25 year old Creative Developer in Chicago Illinois and this is my portfolio and blog. Please take some time to look over what I have and learn a little more about me - I am for hire!

By the way, if you have an iPhone and for the love of god you should! Please visit my mobile companion site. This site will redirect you when you open it on your phone.

Below is a collection of work from 2006 to 2008, please be aware that I have decided not to link any web site because they are not maintained by myself and I would be pretty damned red faced if you went to dead link or a new design or something along those lines. Also this is just a small sample of my work. Due to the nature of my current position I am not authorized to publicly show a lot of stuff, but if you ask nicely maybe we get you a login name for my private portfolio.

Code to me is an art form. A clean, efficient, structured art form. Nothing makes me feel more satisfied than a highly semantic web project that validates 100% strict across the board. It is not a goal to accomplish this but a standard. So if you haven't picked up on it, I'm kind of a fanatic about my code and think everyone should be as well.

Please note, due to the nature of my job most work can not be shown publicly

My newest passion - mobile development. Before the iPhone came out I had already worked on a handful of small projects for Blackberry/RIM, mainly things such as custom emails or optimized micro sites but the introduction of the iPhone has opened many doors to further my interested in this media. Below are a couple sites which I have developed strictly from the iPhone. I am very interested in jumping head first into more of this type of work. Please note, to view the next to pieces you should do so on an iPhone.

To obtain my BFA I was required to do a graduating thesis project, I created a full interactive installation where the user would create a work of art by interacting with thin air. It was entitled "Non-Linear computing within a Physical Realm", essentially you would wave your hands within a designated field of nothing, a small color dot was displayed upon a screen. The faster and harder you waved your arms the bigger and more colorful the dot would get, a random noise generator also played louder and faster based on your movements... pretty rad huh?

Long story short - all of my core files were destroyed shortly after graduation, the only thing that remains are these two videos.

Video number one is of a late night test I ran when I had the IR sensor field somewhat built and yes that is my real messy room from a long ago college apartment.

Video number two is another test I ran while working on the visualization module, my roommate waves his hand through a mono-directional IR sensor to illustrate the sound and video reacting to his hand. Everyone always wants to know what that "black thing" is - it's a plexiglas barrier to calibrate the system... nothing cool. Also if you were wondering, this project scored an almost perfect score... nobody's perfect.

Hello, my name is Daniel Strabley, I am a 25 year old Creative Developer living in Chicago Illinois. This site is my personal portfolio of work.

Currently I work in the Pharmaceutical Marketing Industry as a Senior Designer for closerlook inc, working mainly on web, mobile and interactive projects. I have been working as a designer / developer for the past 6 with clients ranging from small start ups to Fortune 100 companies, I've done work for a company that sells crickets online all the way up to Lexus Automobiles.

I attended Southern Illinois University in Carbondale IL and obtained a BFA in Fine Art with an emphasis in Design and a minor in Art History in may of 2005… please don’t ask me anything about Art History as I have forgotten most of it. I originally went to school for Computer Engineering but switched to Design. My senior thesis was entitled “Non-Linear computing within a Physical Realm”, it was received with the highest regards as I managed to combine my long term relationship with technology and art with exceptional results.

I’m a total stickler for web standards, clean/efficient code, and modern design. I’m a horrible proofreader, bad dancer and listen to my headphones way to loud… I just though you’d want to know.

Employment Status: Taken but looking.
